Ohm’s Law for Vapers: Resistance, Watts and Amps Worked Out on Real Kits

Short answer: Ohm’s law links voltage, current and resistance: volts equal amps times ohms. For vapers, it means a lower-resistance coil at the same power draws more current from the battery and makes more vapour. On a modern regulated pod kit, the chip handles the maths, so you only need to stay within the wattage printed on the pod. It matters most on high-power mods and sub-ohm coils.
The three numbers, in plain words
- Resistance (ohms, Ω): how much the coil resists electricity. Printed on every pod and coil.
- Power (watts, W): how much heat the coil makes. What you set on an adjustable kit.
- Current (amps, A): how much electricity flows from the battery. You never see it, but the battery feels it.
The two formulas that matter: volts = amps × ohms, and watts = volts × amps. From those, at a given power, current goes up as resistance goes down.
Ohm’s law worked out on real settings
Here are the numbers for settings that match kits we sell. We worked them out from the formulas above; they’re what a regulated device’s chip calculates for you.

Look at the current column. Dropping from a 0.8Ω pod at 15W to a 0.4Ω coil at 60W nearly triples the current the battery has to deliver. That’s why sub-ohm devices need bigger, higher-rated batteries, and why they use far more liquid.
What resistance means for your vape

When you actually need to care
Regulated pod kits and box mods: almost every device we sell, including all the pod kits, has a chip that controls voltage and current and cuts out if something’s wrong. Your job is to keep within the wattage range printed on the pod and not to force a pod into a kit it wasn’t made for.
Devices with removable batteries: here, use only batteries made for vaping, from a known brand, with a current rating above what the device will draw. A cheap or fake cell is the weak link.
Building your own coils on unregulated devices: that’s where Ohm’s law becomes a safety calculation, not trivia. We don’t sell unregulated mechanical mods, and we’d only point experienced builders at them.
The UAE heat footnote

FAQ
What does sub-ohm mean?
A coil with resistance below 1.0Ω. In everyday use, it usually means coils around 0.5Ω or lower used at higher power for big clouds.
What wattage should I use?
Stay within the range printed on the pod or coil. Start at the low end and raise it until the flavour is good and the vapour is warm, not hot.
Is a lower-ohm coil stronger?
It makes more vapour per puff, so with the same liquid it delivers more nicotine. That’s why low-ohm coils pair with low-strength liquid.
