20mg vs 50mg Disposable Vapes: How to Match Nicotine Strength to Your Smoking
By DK Ridoy, Vape Highster UAE · Published 25 October 2026 · Last updated 25 October 2026
Short answer: On 20mg vs 50mg: 20mg (2%) disposables suit people who smoked lightly, roughly under ten cigarettes a day, or who are new to nicotine. 50mg (5%) disposables suit people who smoked around a pack a day and still feel cravings on lower strengths. If you’re unsure, start at 20mg; it’s easier to step up than to recover from a strength that’s too harsh.
This is retail guidance on choosing a product, not medical advice. If you’re using a vape to stop smoking, a doctor or pharmacist can help you plan it.
What 2% and 5% actually mean
The percentage is the share of nicotine in the liquid. 2% means 20mg of nicotine in every millilitre; 5% means 50mg. So a 20ml disposable at 5% holds 1,000mg of nicotine in total, and the same tank at 2% holds 400mg. Most disposables use nicotine salt, which feels smoother at high strength than the freebase nicotine in larger cloud devices.
| Label | mg per ml | In a 20ml tank | Typical buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0% / 0mg | 0 | 0mg | Flavour only, no nicotine |
| 0.3% | 3 | 60mg | Shisha-style, relaxed DTL |
| 2% | 20 | 400mg | Light smokers, new vapers |
| 5% | 50 | 1,000mg | Heavy smokers |
A quick way to choose
Think about how many cigarettes you smoked on an ordinary day, and how soon after waking you had the first one.
- Under about 10 a day, and the first one wasn’t urgent: start with 20mg.
- About 10 to 20 a day: 20mg if you vape often through the day, 50mg if you take fewer, longer breaks.
- A pack or more, and the first cigarette came within half an hour of waking: 50mg.
The second question matters because people who need the first cigarette fast tend to find 20mg doesn’t settle the craving.
Signs your strength is wrong
Too strong: a harsh, scratchy throat, feeling light-headed or dizzy, a headache, or nausea after a few puffs. Put the device down and switch to a lower strength. Don’t push through it.
Too weak: you chain-vape without feeling satisfied, the device runs out much faster than you expected, or you still reach for cigarettes. That’s when stepping up makes sense.
A note on the “too weak” route. People on 20mg sometimes vape constantly and get through a big device in days, which costs more than a 50mg device used calmly. If that’s you, the higher strength may be both more satisfying and cheaper.
20mg and 50mg devices on our shelf

| 20mg | AAOK 60K Puffs | 25ml | AED 35 |
| 20mg | Pod Salt 35000 | Not on listing | AED 45 |
| 2% | Elf Bar Raya D3 Pro 30000 | Dual tank | AED 45 |

Notice how few large devices come at 20mg. Most of the market’s big-puff models are 50mg. If you’re a light smoker who wants a long-lasting device, the AAOK 60K Puffs and the Pod Salt 35000 are two of the few that fit.
Why there’s no 35mg disposable
You’ll find 30mg and 35mg in bottles, such as NASTY and Tokyo salts, but almost never in disposables. If you want a middle strength, an open pod kit with a 30ml bottle is the way to get it. Our nic salt strength guide covers bottled strengths, and pod kits under AED 150 lists kits that take them.
Stepping down later
Some people start at 50mg and later move to 20mg, then lower. The cleanest way to do that is in steps, giving each one a couple of weeks. With disposables, the steps are big (50 to 20 to 0). With a refillable kit and bottles, you can go 50, 35, 20, 3 and smooth the drop. If you plan to step down, that’s one real reason to pick a refillable kit.

20mg vs 50mg FAQ
Is 50mg nicotine too much?
For a heavy smoker it’s often the right match. For a light smoker or non-smoker it’s too much. Non-smokers shouldn’t vape at all.
Is 20mg nicotine strong?
20mg is the lower of the two common disposable strengths. It’s still nicotine, and still addictive.
Can I switch from 50mg to 20mg?
Yes. Expect a week or two of more frequent vaping while you adjust.
Where can I get health advice about nicotine?
From a doctor, pharmacist or the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention.
