Cracked Vape Tank? Replacement Glass, Borosilicate vs Plastic, and How to Fit It

Short answer: A cracked tank doesn’t mean a new device. Find replacement glass made for your exact tank model, because diameter and height must match. Borosilicate glass handles knocks and temperature changes better than standard glass; plastic won’t shatter but can cloud or crack with some liquids. If you use a pod kit rather than a tank, a cracked pod simply means a new pod.
First: do you have a tank or a pod?
Many people searching for “vape glass” actually use a pod kit. Pods on kits like the OXVA Xlim, Vaporesso XROS and SMOK Novo are moulded plastic, usually PCTG, with the coil inside. They don’t take replacement glass. If a pod cracks, replace the pod.
Glass matters if you use a sub-ohm kit or box mod with a separate tank, such as the Vaporesso Armour S with its iTank T, the Geekvape Aegis Max Zeus kit, or similar. Those tanks have a glass or plastic tube you can swap.

“Pyrex” is a brand name often used loosely for borosilicate. In a vape shop, the two usually mean the same thing.
The liquids that crack plastic tanks
Some flavours are known among vapers as “tank crackers”. Strong citrus, cinnamon, and some very heavy menthol or coolant liquids can make certain plastics go cloudy, craze with fine lines, or crack. If you use these flavours, choose glass. If you’ve noticed your plastic tank clouding, the liquid is the likely cause.
The UAE twist: hot to cold, fast
Going from a hot car or street straight into strong air-conditioning puts a quick temperature swing on a tank. A drop of cold liquid on hot glass does the same in reverse. How to fit replacement glass
- Check the exact model of your tank. Glass from a different tank, even one that looks similar, often won’t seal.
- Empty the tank and unscrew it from the device.
- Take the tank apart over a towel; small O-rings and parts roll away easily.
- Remove the broken glass carefully. Wrap shards in paper before throwing them away.
- Check the O-rings (the rubber seals). If any are torn or flattened, replace them; most spare glass and coil packs include them.
- Fit the new glass, making sure it sits evenly in the seals.
- Reassemble without over-tightening. Over-tightening is a common way to crack new glass.
- Fill a little, check for leaks over a paper towel, then fill to the line.
Bubble glass: more capacity, more to break
Some tanks offer a curved “bubble” glass that holds more liquid than the straight one. It sticks out further, so it’s easier to knock. If you carry your device in a pocket, straight glass is the safer choice.

Can I vape with a cracked tank?
Not safely for long. It will leak, and broken glass near your mouth is a risk. Replace it.
Is borosilicate the same as Pyrex?
In vaping, yes, in practice. Pyrex is a well-known brand of borosilicate glass.
Why does my plastic tank keep cracking?
Usually a citrus, cinnamon or strong menthol liquid. Switch to a glass tube.
