Drip Tips Explained: How the Mouthpiece Changes Your Draw, and Which Material Suits UAE Summers

Short answer: A drip tip is the mouthpiece on a tank. A wide bore loosens the draw and suits big clouds; a narrow bore tightens it and feels closer to a cigarette. The two common fittings are 510 (narrow) and 810 (wide). Resin and Delrin tips stay cooler to the lips; metal tips heat up, which matters in a UAE summer. Pod kits mostly have a fixed mouthpiece instead.
Do you even have a drip tip?
On most pod kits, such as the OXVA Xlim or Vaporesso XROS, the mouthpiece is moulded into the pod, so there’s nothing to swap. Disposables are the same. Drip tips matter on tank-based kits and box mods, where the mouthpiece pushes or screws into the top of the tank.
One exception on our shelf: the AAOK 110K Puffs comes with a drip tip that lets it sit on a desktop hookah base. Our AAOK 110K review explains how that works.
Bore width: the part that changes the draw
| Bore | Draw | Vapour | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Narrow | Tighter, more restriction | Smaller, warmer, concentrated flavour | Mouth-to-lung, nic salts, ex-smokers |
| Medium | Balanced | Moderate | Restricted lung draws |
| Wide | Loose, open | Big clouds, cooler vapour | Direct-to-lung, sub-ohm, freebase |
A wider bore also lets vapour cool slightly before it reaches you, which is why cloud vapers prefer it at high power. A narrow bore keeps the vapour warmer and more concentrated, which suits low-power flavour vaping.
510 vs 810
These numbers describe the fitting at the base of the drip tip, not the bore. A 510 tip has a narrow base and fits most mouth-to-lung tanks. An 810 tip has a wide base and fits most sub-ohm tanks. They aren’t interchangeable without an adapter. Check your tank’s fitting before buying.
Materials, and the UAE heat problem
| Material | Feel | Heat | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resin | Light, smooth | Stays cool | Many colours; can scratch |
| Delrin (POM) | Firm plastic | Stays cool | Durable, easy to clean |
| Stainless steel | Solid, cold to touch indoors | Heats up fast in sun and at high power | Very durable |
| Glass | Clean taste | Moderate | Breaks if dropped |
Here’s the local point. A stainless steel drip tip left on a table in the sun, or on a device sitting on a car dashboard, gets hot enough to sting your lips. Resin and Delrin don’t. If you vape outdoors a lot between May and October, pick a non-metal tip.
Spitback and long tips
Spitback is when tiny drops of hot liquid jump up from the coil into your mouth. A longer or narrower drip tip catches more of them before they reach you. Some tips have an anti-spitback design with a small barrier inside. If you get spitback a lot, also check that the coil isn’t flooded; our PG/VG guide explains how thin liquid in heat can cause it.
Keeping it clean
Pull the drip tip off every few days, rinse it under warm water, and let it dry fully before refitting. Don’t share drip tips, or vapes, with other people. Check the O-ring on the tip: if it’s loose, the tip will wobble and may leak.

FAQ
Does a drip tip change flavour?
It changes how concentrated and warm the vapour is, which changes how flavour comes across. A narrow tip usually tastes more intense.
What drip tip fits my tank?
Check whether your tank takes 510 or 810. The tank’s manual or the original tip will tell you.
Why does my drip tip get hot?
High power and metal tips both make it hotter. Switch to resin or Delrin, or lower the wattage.
