PG/VG Ratio Guide: What 50/50 and 30/70 Mean for Your Coil, Your Throat and Dubai Heat

TOKYO E-LIQUID 3MG 60ML IN UAE

Short answer: A PG/VG ratio tells you how a liquid behaves. PG (propylene glycol) is thin and carries flavour and throat hit. VG (vegetable glycerin) is thick and makes vapour. A 50/50 PG/VG liquid suits small pod kits with tight coils. A 30/70 PG/VG liquid suits lower-resistance coils that can wick thick liquid and make big clouds. Use thick liquid in a tight pod and you’ll get dry hits.

How ratios are written, and a trap on the label

Brands write the ratio both ways round. NASTY’s 60ml tins say “70% VG 30% PG”. Tokyo writes “VG/PG 70%/30%”. Both mean 30/70 written PG first. This guide always writes PG first. When you read a label, look for which letters come first before you decide what you’re holding.

What each half does

PG VG
Thickness Thin, runny Thick, syrupy
Throat hit Stronger Softer
Vapour Less More, denser clouds
Flavour Carries it sharply Slightly sweet, can mute it
Wicking Fast Slow

The PG/VG ratio of every bottle on our shelf

Liquid Type PG/VG Suits
NASTY Salt 30ml Salt 50/50 0.8Ω to 1.2Ω pods
Tokyo Salt Nic 30ml Salt 50/50 0.8Ω to 1.2Ω pods
Pod Salt Core 30ml Salt 50/50 0.8Ω to 1.2Ω pods
NASTY 60ml Freebase 30/70 0.6Ω and below
Tokyo 60ml Freebase 30/70 0.6Ω and below
Pod Salt 50ml Freebase 30/70 0.6Ω and below

Notice the pattern: every salt on our shelf is 50/50 and every freebase is 30/70. That isn’t a coincidence. Salts are made for small, tight pods that need liquid to wick quickly; freebase is made for bigger coils and bigger clouds.

Why thick liquid dry-hits in a tight pod

A 1.2Ω pod has small wicking holes and runs at low power. Thick 70% VG liquid moves through those holes slowly. Take a few puffs in a row and the cotton runs dry faster than it refills, so the coil scorches it. That burnt taste is the classic sign of a cloud liquid in a salt pod.

The fix is simple: use 50/50 in pods of 0.8Ω and up, and save the 30/70 bottles for lower-resistance pods or sub-ohm kits. Our Ohm’s law guide explains why resistance changes how much liquid the coil can handle.

The UAE twist: temperature changes thickness

VG gets thinner as it warms and thicker as it cools. In a UAE summer, that plays out in two ways.

Inside a cold, air-conditioned office, a 30/70 liquid is at its thickest and slowest to wick, so dry hits are more likely. Leave longer gaps between puffs.

Outside or in a warm car, the same liquid thins and moves fast, which can push it through the airflow and cause leaking or spitting. Keep pods and bottles out of the heat. More on that in storing e-liquid in Dubai’s heat.

What about disposables?

Disposables are tuned at the factory to their own coil, so you don’t choose a ratio. Some listings state it, such as the Pod Salt Go 2500 at 50/50. That’s part of why a disposable rarely dry-hits until it’s nearly empty.

FAQ

Which is better, 50/50 or 70/30?

Neither. 50/50 suits tight pod kits; high-VG suits low-resistance coils. Match it to the device.

Why is my vape spitting?

Often the liquid is too thin for the coil, or the pod is flooded. In heat, a high-VG liquid thins out and can spit. Wipe the pod and leave longer gaps between puffs.

Does PG/VG affect nicotine?

No. Strength is set by the milligrams on the label. Ratio only changes the feel, the vapour and how the liquid wicks.
